Orecchiette Maritate is made from a mixture of Orecchiette and Strozzapreti pasta. It is said that Orecchiette represent the female and Strozzapreti represent the male and in this mixture the pasta has been married together. This pasta is traditionally served at wedding celebrations as a symbol of the long successful marriage.
It is thought that orecchiette maritate were the first pasta to be served with polpette or meat balls!
